Making saves put Jim Craig in the spotlight during the 1980 Winter Games, as he and his teammates on the US Hockey Team beat the odds to win the gold medal. Often cited as the most memorable moments in US history, the 1980 Miracle on Ice has become legend as a story of a well-executed game plan bound to the determination of a talented team. Jim's role defending the US goal from the powerhouse Russian team cemented his image as a symbol for never backing down in the face of a dangerous adversary or unlikely odds.
That same determination and the personal loss of his father years later to an undetected abdominal aneurysm, has led Jim to champion the cause of AAA screening. Jim is again battling a dangerous adversary, but this time the odds are in his favor. While an estimated 15,000 people each year die from AAA in the US, the good news is that the condition is almost always treatable if detected early. Jim's tools in this battle are not the stick and glove that served him so well in 1980, but an ability to connect with the cause and educate people around the country about this disease and how we can defeat it.

Jim is a valuable member of a team that is working hard to make sure that every person who is at-risk for AAA gets screened. That team is composed of referring community physicians, AAA screening sites and practices, and the AAA specialists who treat those that suffer from the condition. Jim does this through the generous support of W.L. Gore & Associates who sponsors him to speak at a variety of events across the country. Together this team is making a difference in the lives of people across the country as they educate and screen to battle the silent killer that is AAA.
